History:

In the mid to late 17th century France, under the rule of the Louis XIV, a man by the name of Eustache Dauger was imprisoned in Pignerol under the order of Marquis de Louvois, minister to the king. Dauger was imprisoned under strict conditions, behind multiple doors to prevent anyone outside from listening in, as well as orders that if he were to attempt to speak to anyone about anything other than his basic needs, he was to be immediately killed. The prisoner also wore a mask, and his face was never seen on record. Though he went by the name of Eustache Dauger, his true identity was actually a mystery.

Over the course of the next three and a half decades, Dauger was moved to different prisons, his identity always kept a secret, although many theories emerged over time. The truth of the matter, however, is this:

When Louis XIII and his wife were unable to conceive a child of their own, an heir to the throne of France, it was the King's minister, Cardinal Richelieu, who sought out a substitute candidate to impregnate the Queen. The father left afterwards for the Americas, but returned in the late 1660s to extort money from the royal family for his 'deed'. Of course, it couldn't be known that Louis XIV was not actually the son of the King, and this is why he was imprisoned and his identity kept secret as he lived out the remainder of his life mostly in solitude.

Although most would say he was a model prisoner, Eustache's time in prison gave him plenty of time to reflect... plenty of time to become angry and resentful. Plenty of time to hate. So when he died in 1703 and went to hell, it was an easy transition from victim on the rack to torturer, as he was eager to take revenge on anyone and everyone who he felt had wronged him (even if they actually hadn't).

Eustache over time, as every human soul that goes to hell does eventually, became a demon, but he went unnamed for quite some time. It was in the late 1800s that he had been having the time of his life on Earth, dodging any duties he might have as a demon as well as the bullying of those demons who felt they were superior. At this point in time, he had chosen to possess an elderly nun by the name of Mildred Flannigan. He spent nearly two weeks in the old woman's body before the priest and other nuns in the woman's church trapped him and gathered together to perform an exorcism ritual that would send him back to hell. It was quite a violent ordeal, and Eustache fought tooth and nail to keep his hold on the old woman, but in the end, he felt himself being dragged back down to hell, and at the last moment, he vacated Mildred's body. A plume of thick black smoke circling the air above the holy group and then escaping through an air vent, but not before hearing a very frightened, relieved, and winded Mildred claim that her companions had 'scared the Bejeezus out of her'.

Somehow, it managed to stick, as despite his best efforts to avoid it, he was caught by higher ranking demons who ended up dragging him back to hell. They referred to him as Bejeezus to taunt him, and over time he started to answer to it.

RP Sample: The motion of Ellen's wave caught the corner of Dean's eye and he made his way over to her, sliding into the booth across from her. A waitress came over and he quickly asked for black coffee and 'what she's having', not really bothering with the menu because he wasn't in the mood to dilly-dally around with breakfast foods when there were more important things on his mind. "Hey Ellen," he said after the petite, middle-aged woman walked away, managing a small half-smile for his old friend that didn't quite reach his weary eyes. "You look good."

Dean cast a glance over his shoulder, reaching into his inner jacket pocket to be sure for the third time that everything he would need was in reach. It was times like this that he wished he had some way of knowing who was a demon and who wasn't short of splashing everyone in the establishment with holy water. That was just something he couldn't do, no matter how much he might want to. These last couple of years had really made him paranoid.

After scanning the room again he finally turned back around to face Ellen, leaning forward a little and keeping his voice low as he grabbed the ketchup bottle and shook it a little, making sure it wasn't empty. "So what's the 411?"
