Lyle drove for a little while until they reached the house it was a common suburban house with nothing too remarkable about it. Lyle glanced at the front door from his car before he opened the door and joined Alessandra who left the car before he did. “My pleasure” - he said extending his hand with a small bow before they started walking towards the house. Lyle used that joke too much but, he felt as if there was something genuine to the gesture this time, like he actually wanted to impress her with gentleman ways. It was an odd sensation that did not last too long.
Mostly, because both of them started running towards the house; having heard a scream coming from within. Suddenly the door was flung open by some force from inside the house. Lyle did not have much time to react because the next thing that happened was that a screaming frightened girl came out running and slammed herself against Lyle. Lyle barely caught her in his arms and almost fell down through the door steps but, he managed to keep his balance. And then a hand was slapping his face and the girl was squirming and screaming beneath his arms.
“Whoa!” - Lyle closed his eyes scrunched his nose and tried to control the girl reminding himself not to harm her as she was obviously a frightened civilian. Though, he came very close to slap her, a couple of times. Alessandra finally managed to control the girl and she started crying and clinging to him. Lyle felt very awkward about all and simply gave her a few paths on the back. Lyle kept quiet while Alessandra talked to the girl because he didn’t want to upset her again and the huntress seemed to know how to calm her down.
When the girl finally stepped away Lyle fixed his tie and remained serious listening to the conversation. Alessandra and Lyle looked into each other when the girl spoke of the intruder. Lyle simply raised an eyebrow and thought this alone would merit further research and wondered if ‘she’ was still inside in the backyard. Finally, it was Alessa the one who decided to enter the house and look for the culprit. “All right, howl out if you find in trouble, I will be ready.” - He said with a nod and a quick smile then he directed his attention to Rebecca.
Lyle let out a weary sigh catching a glimpse of Alessandra disappearing from his view. The girl seemed pretty shaken down and scared, Lyle felt a bit of pity for her. These kinds of things were hard on the civilians. “Look, let’s start this easy, why don’t you sit down here and tell me what happened?” - He said motioning to the steps with his hand conjuring the warmest smile he was able to pull off under the circumstances. He even lead her with a hand laid on her back until she sat. Lyle sat next to her and added: “Don’t worry it’s ok just tell me what happened.”
“I .. I ju-just…” - The girl broke into tears and shook her head unable to finish the sentence. Lyle once again directed a couple of gentle paths to her back. “My partner is going to have a look anyway, so you might as well tell me the truth.” - He said with a soft voice, he hoped that the prospect of another person knowing too, would put her doubts at ease. As a hunter it was very common for him to run into people wary to tell their stories in fear of becoming the targets of mockery. She looked at Lyle with big puffy eyes and he nodded in reply.
I.. It was me… I mean it looked like me… but I am me a-and - she said with an unsure voice between tears. Lyle made a thinking sound and rubbed his chin with one hand the girl has seen herself; could it be a doppelganger case? It was rather uncommon; no, maybe it was something else. You think I’m crazy right? - She said letting out a sob at the end of that question. Lyle rose and eyebrow, his mind coming back to reality. “Huh, no” - He laughed - “Not at all”.
Lyle cleared his throat and dug in his pocket for his fake FBI ID showing it to Rebecca to remind her. “The red haired with me is my partner. We are investigating this one, as you can see it holds interest for the government” - he added with a small nod. Lyle briefly smiled noticing how the girl had stopped crying and was just really surprised. Maybe, she was too surprised that an FBI special agent believed her wacky tale right off the bat. It held no major issue for Lyle as he had run into the FBI in the past.
Or she probably was surprised that Alessandra who didn’t look quite like an FBI agent was one. Lyle could understand why. She looked more like a cloak and dagger character that belonged as the sexy femme fatale spy. What? No, she was a hunter. She was good looking but... that was beside the point. Lyle tucked the ID back in the inside pocket of his suit and took out his notebook and a pen. “So, if I get what you said correctly this also happened to that Chris boy. Tell me now about that and please don’t leave any part of the story out as it may be important.”

Riddle wrapped inside an enigma wrapped inside a taco
A pained expression flashes across the young girls’ face as Lyle asks her about Chris, then she brings both hands up to her face and shakes her head. Thoughts and memories of the last few days raced in her head, and she remains silent for a long moment. Finally Becky slowly removes both of her hands and wrings them in her lap while staring forward and speaking in a quiet tone. “A day after…after James disappeared, Chris started acting funny. H-He said a few times that he saw…well, himself around the school. We thought he was trying to make some kind of bad joke and gave him a hard time about it…I mean, th-that kind of thing is supposed to be impossible, at least I thought so until…” She gestures a hand around herself and realizes she is babbling, then takes a deep shaky breath to try and calm down. “Anyway…then he was really freaked out and wouldn’t talk to any of us, I-I told him that he needed to talk to someone, like maybe he was having problems because of what happened to James. Then…bam, Chris went missing too.” Becky starts to shake a little and looks over at Lyle with wide teary eyes. “I’m…I’m not gonna disappear too, am I?”
While Becky has been talking to Lyle this whole time, Alessandra has made her way around the house and into the backyard where the young girl claimed to see her lookalike. She cautiously scans the area with a critical eye, watching for any kind of movement and listening for any abnormal sounds as she moves forward. Her mind was racing with the different possibilities of what could be going on. There were only a handful of things that could change their appearance to look like someone else, and most of them seemed highly unlikely for this particular case. Her mind kept going back to James and the abnormal strength he showed before vanishing without a trace. As she mills over these thoughts, something in the corner of her vision catches her attention and she whips her head to the side to look. There was something next to the wooden fence that sectioned off Becky’s backyard…something on the ground that didn’t quite look right. Alessandra lightly jogs over to the fence and peers down at the ground, a somewhat surprised and weary look taking over her face as she sees what it is.
It appeared to be skin, but…it was different. It was almost gelatinous and looked a bit slimy, and Alessandra knew right away what it was; the skin of a shifter. If Lyle had been standing with her at that moment, she would have kept a neutral expression on her face while standing tall, ready to figure out what came next. However in this instance, the hunter allowed herself one brief moment of weakness and closed her eyes while covering her mouth with her hand. All of the facts that had been gathered came rushing at her like a ton of bricks…and it all fit together perfectly. The superhuman strength, and turning into whoever he wanted so he couldn’t be found. James was a new shifter, acting carelessly and nonchalantly because as far as he knew, he was invincible and the only one of his kind. Alessandra opens her eyes and slowly lowers her hand, and then in one quick motion she grabs the top of the fence and jumps up to peer over it. It looked like James had tried to shift while running away, leaving more ‘skin’ behind and some articles of clothing. He was getting overconfident, pulling such a stunt in the middle of the day and in a residential neighborhood nonetheless.
As soon as her feet touch the ground, Alessandra makes her way around the side of the house at a quick pace and stops when she reaches the front yard, then watches Lyle and the girl quietly. She catches the last part of Becky’s question and can’t help but gaze at Lyle as he answers. If the hunter didn’t have a huge pit in the bottom of her stomach, she would have smiled warmly at seeing him with the teenager and how he had managed to calm her down for the most part. Instead Alessandra looks at him with a stoic expression on her slightly pale face and waits for him notice her standing there. Once he does, Alessandra beckons him over with a movement of her head and places her hands on her hips. When he is close enough to talk to, she lets out a quiet sigh before looking up at him. “It looks like we’re dealing with a shifter…I found some of the ‘skin’ in the backyard. It appears that he tried to make a run for it while shifting, but he’s long gone now…” Her tone sounds a bit flat as she talks and she clears her throat softly before speaking again. “Were you able to find out anything new from Rebecca?”

Lyle observed the young girl’s distressed grimace that was hidden by both hands held against her face. It was clear to him that she felt guilty for the part she played in these events. Maybe she felt she left a friend out on the cold. For a while he wanted to hug her and tell her it was going to be alright. His eyes moved away from the girl and back to the blank piece of paper with a hand grasping the pen ready to write whatever notes that were pertinent. He gave her the time she needed to compose herself, instead of trying to force her to speak. Slowly but, surely she did spoke:
“A day after… After James disappeared, Chris started acting funny. H-He said a few times that he saw… Well, himself around the school. We thought he was trying to make some kind of bad joke and gave him a hard time about it… I mean, th-that kind of thing is supposed to be impossible, at least I thought so until…”
Until? - Lyle thought.. his mind completed the sentence as she was babbling: Until today when I did see a copy of myself too. Right, the boy went missing and everyone making fun of him suddenly realized that what they had done was wrong or that at least was a very cruel thing to do to a friend. Leave it to typical kids to only realize the consequences of their actions when it's too late to change them. Not, that not making fun of him would have made a great difference. He would still have gone missing. Lyle took a small note and moved to page to turn one page back in his notebook; his captor was likely James. This case was starting to take form.
There was only one kind of creature that could make; itself look as another person. A shifter. NO, no a shifter. That boy, James Franklin was the one that was probably behind it. Great. A Teenage Shifter. Teen hormones and shifter instinct. GRREEAT, Like I have no problems...
“I’m not gonna disappear too, am I?”
Lyle’s eyes centered on the girl and he almost hugged her again. “No” - he said - “That's why we are here, don't worry kid, we will protect you” - he replied with a warm smile that would of have been able to melt the entire south pole, if warm smiles could do that. Lyle tucked the notebook in the inner pocket of his black suit and placed a hand on Rebecca's shoulder squeezing it a little gently. “Don’t worry, just don’t leave your house and make sure someone is with you all of the time, ok? If you see another 'you' again don’t go near it and call someone. You don’t have to tell them what you see. Just make sure you’re never alone.”
Lyle released her shoulder and glanced at Alessandra who went with a power pose and a nod to call his attention. Lyle’s mind forgot all about the case for a second and thought that was pretty sexy. Then he realized she was back, he needed to know if she had caught sight of the culprit. He sent Rebecca back to the house telling her to lock herself in her room until her mother or father came back from work and politely gave her his card, before moving towards Alessandra. “No, just confirmation of what you say, he also did the same with Chris. You know. The shifter is probably James and is taking revenge on the people who bullied him.”
He looked back to the house wondering if James would be back for her soon. “I think we should watch her out, she seems to be the next one on his hit list. If we are lucky we can catch him in the act.”
