Born to Nikki Smiles, Veronica lived a rather happy, albeit sheltered life given her abnormal appearance. Nikki was a good mother, inspired by the injustices she faced to give her daughter the life she deserved - mutations or not. She had such a huge effect on Veronica's life that when the young woman got into programming video games, she decided to make games based around her mothers life. Eventually, Veronica joined the IHA and began working cases with Nikki, and it was on one of these such cases that a rookie hunter by the name of Victoria Johnson mistook Veronica for the creature they were hunting, and as Nikki was trying to explain and show their badges.... blew Nikki's head clean off with a shotgun. The IHA brushed it off as an accident, and Veronica never recovered - leaving in a rage. Eventually, after months of living as a recluse, a man in a mask she would later come to know as Messiah gave Veronica an offer...
