Abilities
Being one of the guardians of Pandora's box, Ryan has many skills and special weapons and items at his disposal in order to carry out his duties. His greatest strength within the group is weaponry and he can wield all kinds. All he has to do is hold a weapon and quickly analyze it, and he will be able to successfully and effectively use that weapon to it's fullest capabilities. Having been trained by his grandfather and uncle, he can also create unique weapons that will actually work without much effort. Ryan is also a very skilled fighter and knowledgeable about the supernatural and Men of Letters, and he can also use certain magic spells, although within the group it's his weakest skill.
Like the other Guardians, Ryan has a special tattoo of a Triquetra, his being in the middle of his back. It was made with special ink that allows him to have a connection with the other members. He can speak with them telepathically when they are close enough together, and he can feel when another member is severely hurt. The location where the tattoo is on the other person will be hit with intense pain and he will know exactly who is in trouble. The strongest attribute of this tattoo is that it negates the use of telepathy (other than communication within the group) and telekinesis against them. Basically, they cannot be thrown around by the invisible force and a psychic outside the group cannot read their minds.

Personality: Typically, Ryan is a good natured guy who enjoys the company of his fellow guardians, and is very proud to be among elite individuals with such an important mission. He has a good sense of humor and enjoys making others laugh, but he also knows when to be serious. He's incredibly disciplined thanks to the training he has received, and he will do what it takes to get the job done. When it comes to his skill set, Ryan is rather brilliant, especially since he is only in his mid twenties. He loves coming up with ideas of new weapons he can create, drawing out plans, and finally getting to work...even though, he can be pretty messy. His execution is still, more often than not, flawless. Ryan can have a bit of a temper when it comes to certain things, especially when his friends are hurt or people who are greedy and/or lie. He cannot stand the latter, and he will speak his mind in a rather blunt way. In pretty much any situation, he isn't afraid to give his opinion or speak up and he doesn't think of the backlash it might cause. In whatever downtime he gets, he enjoys video games and Astrology, both subjects being things he will talk about for hours if someone lets him. He's very excitable and animated when talking about things he's passionate about, to the point where it could be annoying if someone isn't as interested in it as he is. His mood can change rather quickly, going from one of the most talkative people you've met, to the quietest at the drop of a hat if he is down. He has a fear of commitment when it comes to relationships. While part of it is because he enjoys his freedom and what he does, a large part of it is due to the dangerous nature of his life's purpose. It would destroy him if someone that special was hurt because of him, and only an extraordinary circumstance would help him overcome this fear.

History: Ryan was born in the fall of 1991 to Valerie Middleton...she was in labor for about 18 hours, but there were no major complications. Zach wasn't around at this time, in fact he had no idea that he was going to be a father. The hunter had met Valerie in between hunts and before he knew it, he was falling for her. Valerie cared about him, but she had no idea he was a hunter and she didn't think it would be fair to him to bring him into her life as a family member tied to The Men of Letters. So when he was going to tell her that he loved her and confide in her about what he actually did for a living...Zach was rejected, with a very heavy heart by Valerie. So he left, angry at himself for falling in love and thinking it would be better if he had no attachments. Almost a month later, Valerie found out she was pregnant with Zach's child. She thought about trying to contact him, but again, she didn't think it would be fair to him. He was also incredibly hard to find...
So Valerie had a son and raised him as a single mother, although she did have plenty of help and good influences for Ryan to be around, his uncle and grandfather being a couple of the strongest ones. It was clear early on that he was a smart child that loved to tinker, taking apart most anything he could get his hands on to see how things worked before putting them back together. Valerie dated a little, but her main focus was on her son and raising him to be prepared for what his true purpose in life would be. She eventually found some information about Zach and learned he was a hunter, but she kept it from Ryan...again, deciding it would be better this way for now.
When he was a young teen, Ryan started spending a lot of time with his uncle and grandfather in their shop, where he would learn the family craft of creating weapons. He showed a strong desire to learn and felt like he was in his element, working with his hands and crafting things of his own instead of putting other things back together. He was also trained on how to use such weapons and how to fight, along with knowledge of the supernatural. One night, his grandfather died of a heart attack and Ryan took it very hard, nearly slipping into a depressive state over it. His uncle was the one that helped pull him out of it and revealed to Ryan his legacy. He was being trained to become a Guardian of Pandora's Box, like his grandfather was before and like his uncle was at that time. This gave him the sense of purpose that Ryan needed and he started working harder, wanting to make his family proud.
His uncle retired when Ryan turned 20. He took the secrecy oath and was branded with the sacred tattoo on the middle of his back. As time passed, he learned how to work as a team with his fellow Guardians and found his place within the group. Ryan had asked his mother a few times about who his father was and she had always managed to dodge the subject, or give a sufficient enough answer at the time. The subject came up again and Valerie was completely honest with him about everything. He was so angry with his mother for taking that choice away from him, that she wasn't entirely truthful and it led to a huge argument. He demanded the information she had on Zach and left without another word, intending on finding his father while working alongside his teammates to protect the box.

RP Sample: Zach was not a man that enjoyed being idle for an extended period of time…more often than not, he preferred to be working or at least on the road heading to the next monster problem. He had finished a job hunting a rugaru a few states over about three days ago now, but it felt like much longer to the veteran hunter. As he sat outside the small café and scanned through the days newspaper, his left leg bounced up and down restlessly while he looked for anything that would catch his eye.
The only thing that interrupted his concentration was the young petite waitress appearing at his right side and asking in a soft voice, “Did you need a refill on your diet soda, hun?” It took a couple extra beats for Zach to realize he was being spoken to, and he blinks a few times before gazing up at her with a brief smile. He responds in his light Scottish accent: “Aye…that would be nice, thank ya.” She returns the smile and looks away, then hurries off get his refill, leaving Zach to look back at his paper while letting out a heavy sigh.
He wasn’t usually this restless between jobs but he needed to take his mind off of things more than anything. An argument he recently had with Alessandra was one of those ‘things’…it had been over a couple vampires that she let go because they didn’t pose a threat, in her opinion. She insisted that they only fed on animal blood and she would keep an eye on the situation. Zach couldn’t help but shake his head as he thought about it. Sure, he may be a bit biased when it came to the bloodsuckers due to his past with them, but he still couldn’t let shit like that just slide.
Of course he could always track them down and conduct his own investigation, but Alessa would find out somehow and it would just make things worse because then she would think he didn’t trust her judgment and…Zach groans lightly and rubs the stubble on his chin, knowing this train of thought will lead to nothing but a headache and returns to his paper.
