Likes (At Least 3):
❤ bunnies - ever since a little old lady commented on Cole's 'big brown bunny eyes' on their first date, it sort of became a thing, and Lydia collects bunnies of all sorts... stuffed, ceramic, jewelry, etc. (also they taste delicious)
❤ karaoke - not every day for sure, but Lydia enjoys going to bars and participating in karaoke with friends... and with Cole if she can manage to drag him up on stage
❤ kids - Lydia works with children and teenagers, particularly those from troubled homes or with troubled backgrounds, and she enjoys her work very much and often forms strong bonds with the young people that she works with
❤ Cole - Even though she's known Cole for a long time, it took a near tragedy for her to really see him. He's everything she has ever wanted... strong, but sensitive, attentive, chivalrous and charming. She counts her lucky stars every day for him.
❤ stargazing or cloudgazing - One of her favorite things to do with her man. Laying outside on a comfy blanket and watching the sky together... especially when they find shapes in the clouds or stars and Cole uses that to tell her some outrageous story just to make her smile or laugh
Dislikes (At Least 3):
✗ people who mistreat or abuse children
✗ people who don't respect her marriage - the ring means forever, one and done, end of story
✗ irresponsible drivers - put down the makeup... put down the beer... put down your phone and focus on the road
✗ religious or political discussions, particularly in public... you are entitled to your opinion and beliefs, but don't force them on everyone else
Fears (At Least 2):
☬ losing Cole
☬ mice/rats
Goals (At Least 1):
★ She has the man of her dreams and she's more than content for now, but she's hoping that one day there will be kids in her future.
Personality: Lydia is a friendly and outgoing person. She tends to be pretty optimistic, so she tries to see the bright side or the silver lining of a situation. She generally wants other people to be happy and thinks that the world could be a better place if everyone were to reach out and make an effort. Of course, she is human (or at least, she was), and she does have her bad days and her bad moods, so it's not like she's always Miss Bubbly Personality. Still, she tries not to burden other people with negativity, and when she's feeling particularly low, she will usually try to be alone to sort her thoughts out.
She is very much devoted to her husband, Cole, and the idea of starting a family with him is very much high on her priority list... in due time. Having come from a large family that was mostly put together through adoption, finding good homes for orphaned children is something that she does as a social worker, and she finds it extremely fulfilling. She fully intends to adopt at least one child, maybe more, in the future... but for now she is enjoying newlywed life with just him.
Traits
✧ Lydia has a heart of gold. She is kind and likes to see others succeed and do well in general, particularly children or the elderly. She will almost always step in to help someone who is unable to help themselves.
✧ She's family oriented. She respects a family structure of any sort, and believes there is no greater bond than family... and that doesn't always mean people you share blood with. She comes from a big adopted family and is excited to start a new family with Cole.
✧ Lydia tries her best to be optimistic... to find the silver lining in a situation... to inspire hope in others.
Negatives (At Least 3):
✦ Lydia has been known to be a bit pushy with getting someone to talk, sometimes to the point of nagging.
✦ She can get jealous, though she does her best to reign it in. She trusts Cole completely but she knows what a catch he is and can't help feeling a little insecure when someone else expresses interest in him.
✦ Lydia can be a little forgetful and disorganized. If you give her clear instructions, she can follow them to the letter, but too much information at once can make her flustered and confused.

Parents: William and Jolene Barber (adopted parents)
Siblings: Tom (older adoptive brother), David (older adopted brother), Caitlyn (younger adopted sister), Sean (younger adopted brother), and Anna (younger adoptive sister)
Other Family: Cole Garrick (husband)
Important Others: Danielle, her "little sister" (through the big sister/little sister program), Michael, the asshole who turned her
History: Lydia was in and out of foster homes throughout her childhood until she was adopted by the Barbers at the age of 9. The couple already had one natural son, Tom, the oldest, and a boy named David that they had adopted prior to adopting Lydia. She didn't have big horror stories from being fostered... no one abused or molested her, but even the ones who were attentive and kind didn't keep her, so it took some time for her to feel stable once William and Jolene actually signed the papers to legally become her parents. As she continued to grow up, they adopted two more children, Caitlyn and Sean, twins, and eventually had another baby of their own, Anna.
Her family was definitely a good one. She had encouraging parents who treated their children with respect and demanded the same from them, which was easy to do really. Do unto others and all that. In high school, Lydia thrived. She was friendly and outgoing and popular, and many people found her charm and positive attitude very infectious and wanted to be around her. It was in high school that she first met Cole, though they never really talked much. He was two years older than her and they almost never spoke, though there was the occasional exchange of smiles in the hallway. They just didn't really cross paths. Cole graduated two years before Lydia, so that time went by and she pretty much forgot about him. Even when they met up again in college, she didn't think much of it. They were just so different... didn't swing in the same circles or really seem to have anything in common. Lydia was very lively and outgoing and Cole was just so quiet and reserved.
It was one night during their college years when things changed. Lydia had met up with a guy named Michael at a local club on a blind date. The date was going poorly... not that he was doing anything wrong at that point, but the conversation was pretty stale as they didn't have much in common it seemed. She had excused herself to the bathroom so that she could try to think of an excuse to leave, and stupidly left her drink on the bar. When she returned, she told Michael that she was feeling tired and he offered to drive her home once she finished her drink, to which she readily agreed, not having realized it had been drugged.
By the time she finished it, she was feeling quite dizzy and disoriented, and Michael assisted her out to his car. To others, it just looked as though she had drank too much, but Michael seemed friendly and sincere enough that there weren't any red flags raised. He took her out to the parking lot and to his car, pushing her into the back seat before getting in and climbing on top of her. Even though everything was foggy and she felt very weak, she was very much aware of what was happening as he started tearing at her clothes and aggressively kissing her, even going as far as to growl viciously in her ear and bite her shoulder hard enough to draw blood. Lydia attempted to defend herself, but the drugs had really taken effect and it made it difficult for her to really put up much of a fight.
Then suddenly there was the sound of glass shattering and Michael was pulled roughly through the window. Lydia blinked in shock and then sat up, watching with wide eyes as this seemingly quiet, timid guy beat the living shit out of her attacker, until Michael was laying bruised and beaten on the pavement. Cole called the campus police and then came to her aid, making sure she was okay and being an overall true gentleman. He sat with her for the next couple of hours after the police came to question them and take Michael away, until she insisted that she was fine and just wanted to go to bed. Cole took her back to her dorm and they said good night.
Originally, Lydia thought this was a one time thing... that chat with Cole. Although she was grateful for what he had done and she did enjoy his company (as much as anyone could after such an ordeal), she tried to ignore that little spark she had felt in her heart after spending real time with him for the first time. But Cole was persistent... not in a creepy way, but he started checking up on her every few days after the incident, and there was something that told her that he was truly sincere. Phone calls and short visits turned into going for long walks together and deep conversations. The more time she spent with Cole, the more she learned about him, and the more she realized they had in common.
A few weeks into their newly found friendship and something horrible happened. They were taking a late evening walk in the park together when Lydia began to feel uneasy.... and that uneasiness quickly turned to physical agony and terror as her body began to shift painfully into a whole new form... that of a large brown wolf-like creature. She immediately began chasing Cole into a nearby wooded area and managed to get a good swipe at the back of his shoulder with her claws before he was able to duck out of sight and hide up in a tree. Cole actually waited out the night up in that tree, and when the sun rose the following morning and everything was quiet and still, he finally felt it might be safe enough to come down. As he was making his way out of the woods, he came upon a trembling a terrified Lydia, who was filthy and naked, curled up at the base of a tree and hugging herself in the fetal position. There were traces of blood on her face and her hands and her eyes were wild and horrified. She had no idea what had happened or how she got there. Cole took off his jacket and wrapped it around her and then just knelt beside her and scooped her up into his arms and held her, soothing her quietly as she cried.
Even after coming to the conclusion that Lydia was actually a werewolf of all things, Cole continued to come around, even though she tried pushing him away. He was too sweet... too good... too everything, and she had already hurt him once and was terrified of doing so again. But he was persistent, sticking by her for months not only to give her company, but to help securely lock her up during the full moons so that she couldn't potentially cause any harm. He didn't even bat an eye when she expressed a disgusting craving for hearts. He just... supported her unconditionally. So when he finally got up the courage to ask her out, everything inside her told her that he was too good for her, and that she should say no. But she didn't. She had already fallen for him without even realizing it was happening.
On their first date, Cole took Lydia to a soup kitchen to help serve meals to the homeless. It was an odd choice, but Lydia found it heartwarming and she loved it. Afterward, they went on one of their evening walks and enjoyed a lakeside picnic followed by hours of just lying in the grass and looking at the stars together. Cole was everything that she had ever wanted... heroic, thoughtful, sweet... He was perfect.
That was nearly four years ago. The two of them continued to do charity work together as well as pursue their own individual careers. And finally, just earlier this afternoon, they exchanged vows to cement their commitment to one another forever in front of all of their family and friends.

Beth glanced over at the passenger seat as she pulled into the gas station. They had been driving for nearly six hours and Dean had been asleep for about two of them. It had been two days since she first met him back in Michigan and honestly, she was amazed that he had stuck around. Grateful... but amazed. Dean had so far proven to be quite interesting company... not to mention eye candy for the road that didn't give her a stomach ache or cavities.
The gas station was so empty that Beth almost wasn't sure if the pumps even worked anymore. There was a lone dusty green pickup truck parked in the very back corner of the gravel parking lot that ran alongside the small convenience store. The filling area looked to be the only section that was paved, and it was old, cracked pavement at that. She considered waking Dean in case he needed to use the restroom but she decided against it. Even if he did need to make a pit stop, she doubted he'd want to do it in a smelly, cockroach-infested gas station bathroom.
Beth pulled up to the pump and shut off the engine, looking over at him once more. Two nights ago she had kissed him and run out before giving him a chance to reject her. They hadn't talked about the kiss since then and he hadn't given any sign of clue that it even phased him. If Dean was at all intrigued or repulsed by that one little display of affection, he was very good at not letting it show.
She got out of her car and closed the car door, walking around to look at the pump and frowning when she realized there was no credit card reader. With a sigh she hoisted her bag onto her shoulder and went inside to prepay. There was a fairly young guy slouching at the counter and looking far too tired or too stoned to work there... it was hard to tell which. Beth decided to wander around the store to gather up a few snacks for the road. She needed to stretch her legs anyway.
