History:
There isn't a whole lot that Ellie remembers about her mom. She was only two when her mother was killed by a werewolf and honestly it's the basic knowledge of that event that her fear of monsters stems from. Aside from that, she might now and then catch a whiff of someone's perfume that triggers a faint familiar feeling, or she might hear a laugh that just sounds 'right', but aside from that. Nothing. Nothing aside from what she's been told by her brother.

She is aware that she was named after her mother's good friend Ellen Harvelle. Apparently she had even met Ellen a few times when she was small but she doesn't really remember her either. What she does remember is that she's spent her life with her family moving from motel to motel, school to school, and has never really had the opportunity to make friends. Luckily her brother Declan has always been there for her. As long as it was behind closed doors he was even willing to let her 'do his hair' which usually meant putting colorful barrettes in it.

Her father was a big drinker ever since she could remember, but she never realized just how bad something like that was until the day her oldest brother Tommy left. She was only five at the time, and arguing between her father and her oldest brother had become somewhat of the norm, but she took particular notice of this one because it actually led to the two men coming to blows and her father declaring that Tommy wasn't welcome. And then Tommy was gone. In all truth, Ellie and Declan probably would have left at that moment as well, but they were minors and that meant they had to bide their time.

Declan has always made sure that Ellie was provided for, sometimes even giving up his own food to be sure that she had a full tummy. He would pick up short-term odd jobs in whatever town they were in or participate in street races for cash. At first Ellie didn't think much when she'd discover a bruise or cut somewhere on her brother's body because he always told her that it was just 'a little accident at work'. She didn't realize that, usually, it was no accident at all. He was taking the brunt of their father's alcoholism, anger and aggression. But within the last few months she's started to pay more attention and has started to become aware that all this time, he's been protecting her from the biggest monster of all, their father.

The crime rate in New York City was definitely up lately. If the local news wasn't any indication, the fact that May and Rina were rarely able to walk home from school without having to stop even so much as a simple case of bullying was. They had even gotten to the point where they were carrying their uniforms in their backpacks... which might not be the best idea considering how easily someone could get their hands on it... but it sure did save them some time.
Today wasn't about to give them any sort of break from the vigilante lifestyle. At least this time they had managed to turn off the main road, taking their usual shortcut through the alley next to the local library. The fact that it had gotten so bad that people were being abducted right off the street in the middle of the afternoon was just ridiculous. May and Rina were rounding the corner just in time to see a middle-aged woman get dragged into the back of a non-descript black van by two gloved, masked men. The tires squealed as a third man drove away. May had pulled Rina back just in time to avoid being seen, and as they watched the scene unfold she took in as much information as she could remember, particularly the license plate number on the van.

"Come on, we've gotta hurry!" she urged her friend as she dug her costume out of her backpack and was already pulling on the spandex leggings under her skirt. In doing so she pulled out one of the burner phones she had purchased for situations like this and dialed 911, put it on speaker and set the phone down so that she could inform the police of the situation. She and Rina would be able to handle apprehending the felons and getting the woman to safety, but it was up the cops to take them into custody.

The 911 operator answered and the girls gave her the basic information without much detail. She wanted these people caught but she didn't want the police to get in their way. When the operator asked for their names she kicked the phone over to Rina so she could smash it with her claws as usual. She then tucked her hair into her suit and pulled on her mask. "Let's go," she said, her voice now a bit muffled under the fabric, and as webbing shot forth from her wristbands she was suddenly flying into the air after the criminals.
