- What's a Face Claim or Play-by? -
A Face Claim or Play by is the basically the name of the public figure that represents your character. It can be a singer, an actor, a wrestler or what have you, but it has to be someone well known.
Why do we have face claims or play-bys?
Well a lot of people don’t have the time to describe how their character looks like every time they are playing it to people new or unfamiliar with said character. Even if we include a section in the application to describe a character a lot of people have troubles describing every physical detail. A lot of people laze out not reading it or skim through that so badly they misread things. In general, it seems it’s easier just to say “Well this dude looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger” Bam! there, problem solved.

- What's a NPC -
Non-Playable-Character. Or according to wikipedia Non-Player Character. (I have seen it used as the first more).
A NPC is basically someone you use for specific reasons maybe your character goes to fill gas and the person at the register is overly nice or a monster just came to eat you, that kind of things.
The term generates from the gaming culture and it has been in use since the 80’s (or at least the early 90’s). In a game like say Zelda, you move as the main character exploring the world and whatever thingies to get thingies. Sometimes you talk to characters to find quests or loots or stuff like that. You as the player are a character, but these characters in the game are not you. Also games with the option to play multiple characters may have a character that is not unlockable nor playable, but appears as part of the storyline.
We have a few NPC that are used by staff for plots and stuff so keep you eyes peeled for them.
