When a child was born with a tail in an IHA medical facility, needless to say it was an interesting day for the organization. Veronica, the daughter of Nikki Smiles, was an anomaly among those with Angel blood in their system. She inherited Nikki's mutant physiology, but more obvious mutations. When her teeth came in, they came in long, tough and razor sharp. So that her daughter could live a somewhat happy life, Nikki bought a remote house in the woods so that Veronica could play outside if she wished, but if company came over that wasn't "in the know" she would be forced to go to her room, cover herself with a blanket, or wear a lock coat - anything she could do to hide her tail and teeth from people who didn't know about her condition. Because of this, she didn't have many friends. Nikki did her best to invite over other members of the IHA who would help in keeping her company, especially when Nikki would go away on cases. These IHA members would often be her home school tutors, her mentors. They taught her everything she needed to know about the supernatural. One even being Scott Jacobs himself, who would show up every two weeks for a class where he would help Veronica learn to use her unique condition and abilities and encourage her not to be afraid of them.
In her early teenage years, she began to show a interest in computer programming and game design. Nikki spent quite a bit of money to get her professional equipment over the years, and it gave her a hobby to spend her time on. She learned the skill fast and even got to a point where she was making games that were bordering on being potential triple A titles in their quality. She called them "The Smiles Series" and it was mostly about her mother. Nikki was flattered, Veronica always made her the main character. She adored her mother so much, and she wanted to show her that however she could.
When Veronica became eighteen, she actually joined the IHA. It gave her more of a chance to meet people, and she actually made a few friends. She would go on a lot of cases with her mother, who would do a lot of the leg work while Veronica would help in combating the monster itself.
Things took a dramatic turn on one specific case where Nikki and Veronica were tasked to work with a group of new Hunters. They were tasked to kill off a large group of unknown creatures who had taken up residence in a warehouse and were killing off large groups of humans at a time. While staking the place out, Nikki and Veronica were exposed and forced to engage before the group of other hunters arrived. Between Veronica and Nikki, they wiped out all of the creatures in the warehouse, and as Veronica finished off the last one - a vampire - the other hunters entered. All new and fresh faced to the organization, they noticed Veronica's tail and instantly got an itchy trigger finger, taking aim. Nikki stepped in the way, trying to stop them... she received a shotgun blast into the face. Nikki died instantly as she flashed her IHA badge to the newbies. Realizing their mistakes, a small panic started.
Veronica was devastated. She ran to her mothers side and held her close, sobbing. She had been the only one in the world that really understood her and she'd been taken away, just like that.
Upon returning to the IHA, she went to the council and demanded disciplinary action be taken towards the member who fired the shot, but the council decided to rule it as an accident and, at least in Veronica's eyes, no fair response was given. She took out her IHA badge there and threw it at one of the council members before leaving the headquarters.
Not knowing what to do with herself, she returned to her's and Nikki's home and stayed there for months. Sad, alone and sinking all of her time into continuing making the Smiles Series. Eventually, she got to the end of the final game, it was leading up to the death of her mother and she simply couldn't finish the final sequence.
That's when her door bell rang. Wrapping a blanket around her and coiling her tail around her waist, she went downstairs to answer the door and, there on the other side was a man in a mask. He introduced himself as Messiah. He offered her a 'perfect life', a chance to be with her mother again so long as she did what he said. And, as proof, he placed her in a short illusion where she and Nikki were at a restaurant, no one giving her strange looks for her tail or her teeth. He asked her to work for him, to follow him, and if she did and helped him with her plan... she would get to be with her mother forever.
She agreed, and she has loyally followed Messiah since.

Revan let everything Lucy was saying hit her at once, and it felt like the feeling the Angel got when she was still powerful, when someone shot her with a shotgun. She felt terrible, like someone had punched her in the gut, or hit her with a baseball bat. She turned around and her hand went over her mouth, feeling like she was going to throw up. It was better that Lucy was dead than deserving this... No one deserved to be a ghost, the sad, sad existence.
Her throat tightened and tears began to well up, trying a hard as she could to keep from breaking down here on the floor.
She turned to Lucy, seemingly three shades paler, her hair not nearly as vibrant as it seemed to be three years ago, her grey eyes dulled to a shade of black. "Lucy... its 2013..." Revan hadn't been keeping track but she had counted three New Years celebrations since Lucy's death. Her hands went to her face and then back to her sides, her nails digging in to her palms until blood leaked down her fingers. "Three years.. I've counted. Three years I've slept alone in the bed. Three years I've drowned my sorrows I alcohol... Three years with my heart ripped from my chest without you here, Heaven and Earth becoming a living hell to me, leaving me with what options?" Revan wasn't going to lie, she had tried her hand at writing stories like Lucy, but that was the best poetry she could do, even if it was free verse.
Tears were dripping down her cheeks again now, and with the flick of her wrist the TV blinked to life and flicked to the news, where the date would be shown. "Everything I told you... Everything you thought I was crazy over, everything you would joke about... About me being an Angel was not a lie." Revan looked up at her again and then to the floor. "I m-missed you so... s-so much." Revan's legs stopped supporting her then and the pink haired woman fell on the floor, her head tilted down and her face in her hands, sobbing. She knew she shouldn't, but she felt as she did on the day of Lucy's death and funeral. Like all the life had been sucked out of her seeing the person she loved at this fate. But there was a part of Revan that was revived with this, the part of her that she had thought was buried with Lucy... Selfish as it may be to her, Revan was so, so happy Lucy was back.
