Personality: Jo Harvelle is not a woman who accepts being taken lightly. She is bold and brave and just as capable a hunter as any man. In fact, don't dare tell her that she can't do something, especially because she's a female, because she will stop at almost nothing to prove you wrong. Jo is smart and thorough when working a case and often able to pick up on little facts and clues that might otherwise be missed... little tidbits of information that might be the nail in a monster's coffin.
Jo is very close to her mom, Ellen, but the two of them tend to butt heads quite a bit. Mostly, Jo wants to hunt and Ellen doesn't want her to. It's not that her mom thinks she's incapable... but rather that she's terrified of losing her daughter the way she lost her husband so many years ago. But Jo is determined to be the sort of woman that would have made her father proud. She loves saving lives the way he did... He was her hero in every sense of the word. Jo is quite brave and can even be rather reckless when it comes to hunting, often putting her own life on the line in order to save someone else.

History: In her own eyes, Jo has always been a hunter... born and raised. Sure, she didn't start actually hunting on her own until she was a legal adult, but she can still remember greeting her dad every time he came home from a hunt. He always looked tired, but he always greeted Jo and her mom eagerly and lovingly and he was never too tired to share the story of his most recent adventure, however inflated the facts may be. Unfortunately, there was a time when her father didn't come home with a hug and a kiss and a new story for her... When her mom broke the news to her that he would never come home again.
The Harvelles ran a family-owned roadhouse that was a popular watering hole among other hunters, whether they were locals or just those who were passing through. Growing up, Jo spent quite a bit of time with many of these and probably even considered some of them extended family. She took to waitressing and helping out around the roadhouse as soon as she was old enough to do so, all the while chatting with other hunters and listening to their own stories... but no matter how interesting they were, or how well they treated her... none of them could even come close to Bill Harvelle in his little girl's eyes.
In 2006, opportunity presented itself in the form of Dean and Sam Winchester, when the brothers came into the Roadhouse after hearing an old voicemail that her mom had left on their father's phone. There were a few sparks of chemistry between she and Dean, but as the Winchester boys had very recently lost their father, his heart just wasn't into another random hookup at the time... wrong place, wrong time, as he called it. It didn't keep Jo from developing a bit of a crush, however... but nothing more came from it aside from eventually a mutual respect as fellow hunters and trusted friends.
That respect and friendship didn't come easy at all. On a subsequent visit to the Roadhouse, Jo had put together a case file and presented it to the brothers. Ellen insisted that they pursue the case, much to Jo's protests and insistence that she could handle it herself. Dean and Sam went to investigate the case and were surprised when Jo met them there, having had Ash leave a fake credit card trail for her mom, whom she had told she was going on a road trip. The three of them worked together and eventually were able to crack the case, saving an innocent girl's life, but not before Jo had managed to put herself in danger. This was her first actual case and it showed in her recklessness. Sam asked Jo if it was as glamorous as she thought, and all Jo really cared about was that she had helped save someone's life. This was the legacy that her father had left behind... the legacy that she wanted to follow.
Unfortunately, Ellen had found out about Jo's lie and had come out to meet them, which led to an extremely awkward long car ride back home to Harvelle's. When they arrived home, there was a shouting match between Ellen and Jo, where Ellen finally admitted to Jo that her father had been killed on a hunt where he had partnered up with John Winchester. Jo unfairly blamed Dean and Sam for what had happened, and she broke off contact with them for a while.
During the next couple of years, Jo did not back down from her pursuit of being a hunter. Ellen finally realized that she couldn't keep her daughter under lock and key, and the two of them became a mother/daughter hunting duo... at least that way Ellen could keep a watchful eye on her. Jo didn't meet up with Dean and Sam again until after Lucifer had been freed, and eventually one of those meetups led to her helping them break into Crowley's mansion to steal the Colt, which they intended to use on Lucifer.
Unfortunately, the demon Meg was also waiting for them when they arrived to take down Lucifer, and sent hellhounds after the group. Jo was attacked when she shot a hellhound to save Dean before they managed to hide in a hardware store, blocking the exits with salt lines. It became evident soon that they had no way out, and they built a massive bomb, Jo keeping her hand on the trigger. Knowing that she wasn't going to make it with her injuries, there were tearful goodbyes as Jo volunteered to stay behind so that the others could escape. Ellen chose to stay with her, and Jo died in her mother's arms before Ellen set off the explosion that took her as well.
Jo went on to Heaven, where she was reunited with her mom and dad and life was perfect. The only obstacle was the time when her spirit was summoned by the god Osiris when he put Dean on trial and tried to force her to kill her old friend. Jo made it clear to Dean that she didn't blame him for what had happened to her, and although she didn't want to kill him, she was compelled to do so. Luckily, Sam managed to kill Osiris just in time, and Jo's spirit returned to Heaven. And she's been there since until recently, when she felt the pull again, and has been dropped back down to Earth by some unknown power... back in her own flesh and blood body with a breath and a pulse and a hell of a lot of questions...

RP Sample: The motion of Ellen's wave caught the corner of Dean's eye and he made his way over to her, sliding into the booth across from her. A waitress came over and he quickly asked for black coffee and 'what she's having', not really bothering with the menu because he wasn't in the mood to dilly-dally around with breakfast foods when there were more important things on his mind. "Hey Ellen," he said after the petite, middle-aged woman walked away, managing a small half-smile for his old friend that didn't quite reach his weary eyes. "You look good."
Dean cast a glance over his shoulder, reaching into his inner jacket pocket to be sure for the third time that everything he would need was in reach. It was times like this that he wished he had some way of knowing who was a demon and who wasn't short of splashing everyone in the establishment with holy water. That was just something he couldn't do, no matter how much he might want to. These last couple of years had really made him paranoid.
After scanning the room again he finally turned back around to face Ellen, leaning forward a little and keeping his voice low as he grabbed the ketchup bottle and shook it a little, making sure it wasn't empty. "So what's the 411?"
