Dislikes
✗hot weather- his wardrobe is entirely black on black, so if the sun shines a little more determinedly than usual he melts
✗white wine. You might as well drink water. He’ll settle for a rosé, if he has to.
✗being the brunt of a joke- his ears stick out a little, so his friends sometimes call him Dumbo. It's all in good nature, of course, but it sets Nico off in a mood
Fears
☬ commitment
☬ his mother lapsing back into alcoholism
Goals
★ To achieve moderate musical fame. He’ll settle for just one person to recognise him in the street.
Personality: Nico is a moody British boy who takes life just a little too seriously. Though he’s not averse to letting go and having a wild time with his friends, he is, for the most part, sullen in nature. He can seem apathetic and rude, with his bored expression and tone of voice, and has little opinion on anything; what he does, where he goes, or even what he eats. That isn’t to say he’s a sheep, however- quite the opposite. He’s got a highly individual sense of self and style, and does things his own way if he has to do things at all. Nico is hard to please, and even harder to make smile. Though certainly his apathy can be draining, he’s excellent at diffusing tension due to his calm demeanour. He remains composed in arguments, but he tends to be more defensive than aggressive.
Despite his indifference he somehow has a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, but this is largely due to the sociable nature of those he has known since childhood. He can be a bit of an idiot among company, though, following along with whatever plans others have made. People are for whatever reason drawn to his unenthusiastic ways and sarcastic remarks, and he is inexplicably popular with the girls much to the chagrin of his friends. However, Nico doesn’t do well in relationships; he feels he’s missing out on someone or something better, yet at the same time he is somewhat insecure within himself and doesn’t understand why somebody would be interested in him.
One thing Nico is passionate about is music. He’s a big fan of The Smiths and other such bands in a similar depressing indie vein. His own band, Big Sleep, of which he is the singer and rhythm guitarist, is comprised of himself and his childhood friends Sam McDowell, Jowan Phillips, and Cooper Norfolk. Nico is almost the sole composer of their original material; he writes both melodies and lyrics, and it’s perhaps the only way he truly expresses himself. The band has a little momentum in their hometown, but not enough interest to generate a living.
It usually takes a few drinks to unlock Nico’s more social side, but the problem is that once he starts drinking he doesn’t know when to stop. Red wine is his vice. In his drunken state, he is more susceptible to the bad ideas and influences of his friends; namely, cocaine. He’s never been in trouble for these kind of antics, though- quite the opposite. At any sign of a threat, he’s first to bolt. Though he may seem disillusioned by life in general, he certainly has no intention to put his own in danger.

Parents: Barbara Pearson and Kenneth Allen (divorced)
Siblings: half-brother Leo Allen, 8
Other Family: N/A
Important Others: Sam McDowell, Jowan Phillips, and Cooper Norfolk; his best friends from home. His high school music teacher Mr. Fitzgerald helped form his musical opinions. Leanne Read, ex-girlfriend #1. Naomi Hughes, ex-girlfriend #2.
History: Nico was born into rural middle class suburbia in Chester, a relatively posh area of south Manchester, England. As his parent’s first and only child, he was showered with toys and attention- even if it made him a little bit of a brat, early on. Surprisingly, he was a total comic as a child and often made his parents laugh with his silly humour and chubby, expressive face.
That was, until, Barbara and Kenneth’s marriage began to break down, catalysed by Kenneth’s infidelity. It transpired that he had slept with his wife’s friend, Lyndsay from the gym, and Barbara was understandably livid. Nico was eight when the affair came to light, and even though he didn’t quite understand what was going on, his parent’s anger towards each other had an astronomical effect on his personality. He became somewhat reclusive, and took to cycling into town to walk the city walls alone. It was preferable over listening to his parent’s screaming matches at any rate. They finally divorced when Nico was 10, in the summer after he finished primary school. He stayed with his mother, who took to alcohol to deal with her divorce. She left Nico to his own devices, for the most part, which he appreciated, though it certainly made him a little wayward at school. The alternative was moving to Calpe, Spain, where his dad met his new wife Valentina. His half-brother Leo was born seven years later, but Nico only sees him twice a year when he visits his dad. It’s more of an obligation than anything, but at least his dad pays for the return plane ticket.
When Nico hit high school, he immediately fell in with the rebellious crowd; where smoking was cool and weed was even cooler. Since his parents had been hurling abuse at each other rather than teaching Nico right from wrong, he hadn’t formed an opinion on either. As a consequence, he didn’t see a problem with smoking behind the bike sheds at break time, or skipping lunch in favour of vaulting the school fences and heading to the local park with a joint. He and his friends always had a laugh, that much can be said, however much they broke the law. His memories of high school are fond, and he misses those carefree days. He left school with three whole GCSEs: an A in music, his favourite subject, and C-grade passes in the essentials, English and maths.
During his time at high school, Nico had formed a band with his best friends Sam McDowell, Jowan Phillips, and Cooper Norfolk. He’d been playing guitar since the age of 11, a hobby he picked up to deal with his parent’s messy divorce. As the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, one would think he had more of an input into the band’s name (Big Sleep) and the songs they cover. However, since Nico is Nico, he couldn’t care less about these matters, so he merely turns up to practise and, if they’re lucky, any gigs they have booked, and does exactly what his bandmates tell him to do. That’s if they’re doing covers, however; when it comes to original material, Nico’s the primary writer. He composes a base melody and sends it to Cooper to flesh out so he can focus on the lyrics.
Ultimately, Big Sleep is just a group of middle class boys trying to break into the music scene while they juggle the mundane jobs required of the unsuccessful. Nico himself took a job at a local pub so he could maintain the red wine and weed lifestyle he’s become so accustomed to, and also keep up with the rent on the two bedroom flat he shares with Cooper in Manchester city centre. Even though the band has little to no fame, he and his friends certainly try to live the rock n roll lifestyle as best they can, and spend most of their nights out in the city, chatting up girls in bars and trying to get traction for their band in the local venues.

RP Sample: Nico and his friends were crowded around a low coffee table in their favourite bar in Manchester, Big Hands. It was a Friday evening, and the group were preparing themselves for a long night of getting wasted on the second floor of Factory. Nico was sunk into a chintz armchair; Cooper and Jowan had piled onto a worn leather sofa, and Sam had pulled up a chair from a neighbouring table. The other three kept chancing glances over to the bar, where a gaggle of girls were stood chatting, but Nico, apathetic as ever, was staring into his half finished glass of red with a bored expression.
'You go over,' Jowan nudged Cooper, who had taken a liking to a blonde wearing a fetching leather crop top.
'No way man, she's with all her friends. Girls in packs are fucking terrifying, you know that more than any of us,' Cooper replied with a snort. He was referencing the time that Jowan had walked into the midst of a circle of girls who were dancing together in 42s- and was promptly shoved out. He was shoved out with such force, in fact, that he fell to the booze-soaked floor and grabbed onto the bouncer to pull himself upright. The bouncer was understandably enraged by this drunken behaviour, and while his onlooking friends almost wet themselves with laughter, forcefully escorted the very embarrased Jowan outside.
'Oi fuck off, Coop,' grumbled Jowan as his friends once again laughed at the memory. Even Nico joined in, and leaned across to grab his wine glass from the table as he chuckled.
Sam glanced over his shoulder but looked back just as quickly, lowering his voice, 'Yo watch out, one's coming over, be cool, be cool.'
Nico looked up over the rim of his wine glass at the pretty girl who had approached them from the bar. Her friends were looking on, whispering to each other behind their hands. The girl looked him straight in the eyes, ignoring the other boys, with one hand absent-mindedly twirling a strand of her curled brunette hair. 'Hey,' she said simply.
In response, Nico nodded and raised his wine glass in acknowledgement, 'Hey,'
His friends were watching him, positively agog. Cooper hissed across the table, 'Fucking talk to her man, she's well fit.'
The girl was still watching Nico with thinly disguised desire. She'd evidently just applied a fresh coat of muted pink lip gloss to make her lips appear plumper, and Nico couldn't help but notice she was pushing her lack of chest out. He took another sip of his wine then gave her a half-arsed smile, 'How's it going?'
