Likes (At Least 3):
❤Driving armored vehicles
❤Watching cartoons while cuddling with Ivy. He's particularly fond of Gravity Falls.
❤Sex
❤Lo-fi music
❤Making Ivy laugh
❤Reading. Both to Ivy, and just for himself.
Dislikes (At Least 3):
✗Coleslaw
✗Mountain Dew
✗Disney's Jungle Book - he's seen it way too many damn times in a row after Ivy went through a period of being obsessed with watching it.
✗Tasteless jokes, especially ones made at the expense of another.
✗People who don't read and ask stupid questions, ones that would be answered if they bothered to read what information was right in front of them.
✗People seeing his back scars.
Fears (At Least 2):
☬Not being an adequate father for his daughter.
☬Failing to protect his daughter from both herself and any who may come after her in the future.
☬ Fire. Particularly out of control fire, or anything larger than a small campfire.
Goals (At Least 1):
★To help Ivy learn how to control her powers, as well as better understand them himself.
★Protect his remaining family at all costs.
Personality: Strong-willed and quite protective of loved ones, Deacon is a man who will do whatever he can to ensure his family and friends stay safe. He is very caring, and attentive to Ivy's needs. His studious side shows in the careful and constant research he is always conducting to help in the non-psychic side care of his daughter. It can normally take a lot to wear him down mentally and physically, though with how stressed he has been the last year this has been easier to do of late. If he has a mind to do something, he finds a way to do so out of sheer stubborn tenacity.
He is quite self conscious of the scars that cover his back, and can get really quiet and a bit upset when someone sees them by accident. He can handle things better when he trusts someone enough to show them his scars on his own grounds. As such, he is never seen without a shirt of some kind on. He has a terrible fear of fire after the accident, and will often be seen to get nervous when around open flames or any situation that has potential to cause bad fires. Deacon has a bad habit of refusing to ask for help when he needs it, carrying his burdens until he is nearing a breaking point while trying to pretend things are still okay. He is aware that he needs to fix this habit, and he is trying, but he still frequently slips up.

History: Born in Montana, Deacon's childhood was one filled with many arguments between his parents that often left him to try and distract his younger brother Donny while they fought. It wasn't a particularly happy childhood, not until they divorced when he was 6. After that his mother got custody of the children and they would visit their father on weekends. For the first time, Deacon felt like he had stability in his life despite the circumstances. Over time, both would remarry and have another kid, giving Deacon and Donny two new half siblings. Deacon was never terribly fond of Mia and Liam; he felt that they took away the attention that their parents should have given him and his full brother. As such, the siblings were not very close growing up but would begin to work on fixing that once they had grown and moved past the immaturity of youth.
Deacon has always been interested in the military, and this keen interest would lead to him signing up for the military when he was 25. There, he joined the armored division and began his career as the driver for armored vehicles. His first deployment to the Middle East was the longest he would have, capping out at 12 months. It was a year of hell for him, but showed just how resilient he was and that he was pretty damn good at his job. Eventually his deployment ended and he was allowed to return to active duty at home. During those 21 months of rest, he met the most amazing woman of his life, a lady named Charlotte Grant. She was a real spit-fire who took his breath away, and the two ended up falling for each other hard in a whirlwind romance. Deacon knew then that he had found the woman he would marry, but she insisted that she wasn't ready to settle down yet, especially to a military man. So, they agreed to continue to date for the next few years, to test how well their relationship would handle his future deployments.
After his time of rest, Deacon was once again deployed. This time for 7 months. During that time, he and Charlotte kept up as regular communication as they were able, and Deacon found a new drive to survive. Yet again he proved to have incredible luck when it came to making it back from missions with minimal harm. Once he returned home for another rest period, that was when he married Charlotte. A few months later, she was pregnant with their first child. This absolutely delighted Deacon, as he had always wanted children of his own. What's more, the baby was due to be born just before the end of his rest period, allowing him to be there for Charlotte. Or so they planned. Unfortunately, he was called in a week before Charlotte's due date and had to miss the birth of his daughter Ivy. It would be a long 9.5 months before he got to meet her.
During this last deployment, Deacon would meet a man named Alaric Ballard. He was a driver for one of the armored vehicles on Alaric's team on a couple missions, and he found he rather liked the guy. He seemed to know what he was doing and had a good head on his shoulders. He was a man that Deacon would definitely agree to be on a mission with again. He was deeply shocked and saddened when he heard what happened to Alaric on his last mission, though he couldn't believe that the man had survived. It was then that Deacon realized just how damn lucky he was. He probably cursed himself then, as a few weeks before his deployment was due to end his convoy suffered a bad hit. Their squad was ambushed by enemy forces who fired upon their trucks with RPGs. The entire thing was a blur for Deacon, as the initial hit threw him from his vehicle. The next thing he knew was a world of pain as his back burned from the explosion. All around him was screams, gunshots, and fire. Then, there was nothing.
He would wake up later in the hospital, still in agony as he now had to recover from the serious burns his back had. Unable to return to duty due to the damage, he was honorably discharged when he had recovered enough to return home. There, he met Ivy for the first time, and fell absolutely in love. He decided right then and there that he would always do what he could to keep his adorable little girl safe. Things in life were going great. Deacon's recovery was coming along nicely, Ivy was a healthy child and the whole family was very close. Sadly, when Ivy was just over a year old, Charlotte had left her with Deacon while she went out to grab some groceries. She never came home.
Deacon was told it had likely been a drunk driver, who hit her and ran. His entire world came shattering down around him. It almost didn't feel real, the fact that he was now alone with Ivy. It wasn't supposed to be this way. They were a family, they had plans...decades ahead of them...but now...As Deacon held his infant daughter in his arms during the funeral, all he could think was how lost he was without Charlotte. It was later that he would learn that his wife had kept one very large, and very important, secret from him. What he hadn't know when he was with Charlotte, was that she was descended from a royal line of psychics, the Grant family. She had kept her abilities hidden from him as she tried to live a normal life. Part of the reason she had disowned her family was because she had wanted to cut ties with that legacy. And now, it continued in Ivy. Shortly before her second birthday, Ivy's telekinetic abilities began to manifest.
All the parenting books in the world couldn't help the incredibly stressed single dad. Not when his toddler regularly sent everything in the room flying around when she was upset, or the way the house shook when she was angry. There had even been a few times when Deacon himself was shoved back by an invisible force. every toddler had temper tantrums, but Ivy's were made so much worse with her power. Deacon was terrified, and oh so incredibly stressed out trying to deal with things he didn't understand. More than once he has broken down after Ivy was finally settled down and asleep. Despite this though, his love for her remains strong and he is determined to find a way to deal with her powers, and to help Ivy learn to control them better. He is extremely protective of her, worrying about leaving her with anyone for long periods of time as he's not sure what would happen if people knew about her telekinetic abilities. One day while they were on their way to the store, Ivy now 3, Deacon found himself driving in a new town that unbeknownst to him contains many people able to help him and Ivy.

Claw tapping the worn table, Eindriđi's blue gaze swept over the faded spidery writing of an ancient philosopher. Carefully turning the delicate yellowed page of the old book, the harpy shuffled his wings and again settled back into his zone. Fascinated by the long past human's view on various herbs and possible medical uses, Eindriđi almost didn't hear the soft chime of the store front door opening. His head only snapped over to the curtain that separated the store from the privacy of his back room when the visitor called out for his attention.
"Nother delivery for you, sir!" piped up a cheerful young male.
Hopping to the floor, Eindriđi quickly focused and shifted to a human appearance. As he stood straight, his blue eyes darkened to almost black, and he smoothed his now black hair back. A smile lit his face as he brushed the curtain aside and stepped into his customary place behind the old wooden counter. The courier thumped a heavy box on the desk, wiping his brow.
"That's a really heavy one. What kind of books did you get in today?" he asked, as he pulled out his electronic scanner and began to record the package as delivered.
"Colin, I have so many books I'm always waiting for, that it's a surprise every time." Eindriđi laughed, signing the delivery notice. Too excited about his books, he didn't notice that Colin had blushed at the soft, pleasant lilting sound that was the harpy's laugh. "Do you care to see?"
"Wh..what?" Colin blinked, pulling out from the soft daze he had found himself in. "Oh! Uh, no. I'd love to, but." The young man shrugged and gestured to the parked van outside. "I have so many deliveries to make."
"Ah. Next time then." Eindriđi chuckled softly, smiling. "Thank you, again."
"No problem sir! I'll probably be back by the end of the week!" Colin gave him a small salute, before turning and hurrying out. Hands resting on the box, the harpy watched him leave. He enjoyed Colin's presence. He was such a bright and eager young man. And one of few these days who seemed to still appreciate the paper form of books. Returning his gaze to his box, Eindriđi carefully shifted just one finger, the nail sprouting into its lethal claw. Using it to slice open the tape, he shifted it back after its task was complete. The smell of musty old paper hit him the moment the cardboard flaps opened. Ahh, these ones were so very old. Carefully pulling on a pair of cotton gloves, the harpy pulled out the carefully packaged pair of tomes. He brought them to the back to finish their unpacking, a soft happy trill fluttering out of his throat in excitement. He couldn't wait to read these rare finds.
