I'd heard about the missing people and the circumstances of which they'd been going missing when the police reached out to Hunters for help. It definitely didn't sound "normal" but what in this town ever is? Anyway, I headed to the police station, met up with the other two women who had volunteered to work it. Odette seems pretty cool, honestly. So we went over the police files, got the names and numbers of the witnesses, as much information as the police had before getting in contact with the last victim's girlfriend.
Luckily for us, she was at the house. Poor thing, she clearly didn't want to talk about it. I can't say I blame her, if my boyfriend had been talking to his long dead grandmother and suddenly decided to go meet her in the woods, I'd be pretty upset too. She did confirm a few things for us though. There were no cold spots, no sulphur, nothing that would have indicated a demon or a ghost. After talking to her, we figured it would be easier to split up, sort of. Willow went to talk to the rest of the witnesses and Odette and I hit the books.
Based off of what we knew, that being the fact that the victims were talking to their dead relatives and being told to 'go to them' in the woods, at night... We narrowed it down until we found out what it was. Nasty creature called a Crocotta. These things aren't fun to deal with, the only thing that can take them out is damage to the spinal cord. Not to mention the super strength, the teeth and the fact that they feed off of souls.
Anyway, so after spending some quality time with Odette and the books, figuring this thing out and waiting for Willow to get back to us, I decided to go ahead and get into contact with a couple of the witnesses myself. I asked the basic questions, just to be sure. Once again, no sulphur, no cold spots. Just talking to their dead relatives and being asked to meet them in the forest. One of the witnesses, Boyd, did tell me that Mrs. Duncan, another witness had started talking to her deceased husband and was planning on going into the woods.
Which brings me to the big event, so to speak. Odette texted Willow and I asking if we were at the house, wanting to get this whole mess wrapped up. I definitely didn't blame her for it, just so happened that I'd finished talking to Boyd right as she texted so I headed downstairs so we could regroup before heading out. Here's the even weirder part. Willow and I went upstairs to go get our gear, and when I came back down... There was a Wolf there. Willow gave me some weird story about Odette meeting us there and the wolf helping us track this thing, I don't believe it but honestly, it seemed friendly enough so... Whatever.
We get into the woods and this wolf starts sniffing around then just takes off. Not like it left us behind or anything, thank god. Not that I wouldn't have been able to get back to the house but I didn't want to delay this hunt any further either. So I take off after it at a jog with Willow and we head deeper into the woods, not my favorite thing to do, honestly we are lucky the Crocotta was the only thing we came across but we found... Well, we found a real stench in truth and then we heard the scream. It seems Mrs. Duncan made it out in the woods anyway, cause by the time we got to her, the crocotta had her.
Here's where the real fun begins. Willow shot at the thing, I don't know if she meant to miss or not, but she did so I run at this thing, attempting to get behind it and get a good swing to take off it's head and it vanishes. Like, disappears for a moment. I missed, sadly and when I turned around it had Willow by the shoulders and had decided to make her a meal. Well, I'd rather not have two dead bodies on my hands, at least not from two innocent people so I rushed this thing again, this time it didn't move. In hind sight, I... think something was holding it there... Maybe I'm going crazy, who knows. Either way, I managed to get a decent swing with the machete and took it's head clean off.
After that, the wolf ran off and I went to check on Willow. I got to the Crocotta before it managed to kill her, thankfully and she came away feeling a bit drained but other than that unharmed. I called the police, gave them the location of the bodies and took Willow home. We did meet up with Odette back at the house, apparently she got lost trying to catch up with us.
