I'll be honest, I don't really remember a lot about how I heard about this case. I remember hearing about the strange rash of bad luck among others, something didn't really sound right to me from the start which is exactly why I decided to join in on trying to figure out what was going on.
It was myself, JT, Teresa and Tali, Tali was the lead on the case, due to it being one of her friends that it happened too. The fact that it started happening in Zepplin is what worries me the most, as if this town needs any more bad luck, but anyway. I remember Tali telling us that she knew a girl, Jessika, I believe and her boyfriend who went to a graveyard, found a chair over a grave, the Devil's chair from what I understand. An Urban legend, if I recall.
From what she told us, some strange woman lured the boyfriend into sitting on the chair, then something else got involved, a demon perhaps. That's when the bad luck started, ultimately ending in his death. Of course that was ruled an accident. The information was interesting and concerning. I know that some witches work with demons for power but that doesn't make it any less concerning when something like this comes up.
We did talk about the case for a bit, though we really didn't come up with much outside of what we already knew. After that we decided to head to the cemetery to see what we could find, if anything. We walked for quite some time, talking about the case, speculating for the most part. After a while though, we did find something. A chair, rooted over a grave like it had been grown there.
Personally, it's an affront to nature, twisting it that way. It was clearly some sort of magic, though I have to admit, I've never seen anything like it before. Of course I had to tell them that I knew about magic, I wasn't exactly excited about that but I did what I felt was needed.
Anyway, back to the chair. It was decided that we put a rock on it to see if we got any reaction. We also decided that it would be best to be prepared for anything so we went back to JT's car for weapons. They gave me a gun, though honestly I've never used one in my entire life. The rest of us stayed back, watching as JT placed the rock on the chair, but nothing happened. After that, Teresa attempted to burn it with a flamethrower but not even that worked, we came to the conclusion that it was protected somehow, either magically or demonically. I'm still not sure which but it was about that time that we did notice some sort of runes for it.
I'm assuming they are demonic, but I could be wrong. I know one thing, I've never seen them before. Next came a slight argument, well. Perhaps discussion would be a better word. JT wanted to sit on it, of course no one saw that as wise. Though no one else could come up with a better plan either. It was then that something else started happening too. The wind started picking up, as if pushing us towards the chair.
Around that time, I wound up having to tell them that I was a witch. I wasn't happy about it, but it was becoming obvious that it would need to be done. They weren't pleased about finding that out, not that I blame them. If this chair does have something to do with a coven of witches, it could end badly.
This is about where the real debate started. One side was JT sitting on the chair due to him being a Hunter. Typically I wouldn't argue such a thing but considering the circumstances, a hunter with a string of potentially deadly bad luck cannot end well. I volunteered, being a witch I have ways of protecting myself and potentially changing my luck. However, Teresa made a valid point, even if I don't entirely agree with it. JT and I are valuable to the group, him being a hunter and me being a witch.
After that, I attempted to take a closer look at the runes, but as I said before. I've never seen such things before. This is truly when things started getting weird, even for me. I started hearing a voice, beckoning me to sit in the chair. I don't remember moving towards it but apparently I did. The next thing I knew, Teresa was sitting in the chair and I was much closer than what I had been before.
Suddenly vines were wrapping themselves around Teresa, holding her to the chair. I tried to take control of them but whatever magic was being used? It was stronger than mine. Clearly, something was happening to Teresa but I'm not quite sure what. A few minutes later this woman appeared, I'm not sure if she was a ghost or a demon, but she clearly enjoyed torturing Teresa from what she said.
I think it was Jt that shot the woman, causing her to disappear. Shortly after, a man appeared. I can only guess that he was a demon, though whatever face he was definitely nice to look at. Despite that though, the rest opened fire. It didn't seem to do anything other than cause whatever pain Teresa was in to increase, so I did the only thing I could think of. I started chanting an exorcism, which worked, thankfully.
The man disappeared and we were able to get Teresa out of the chair. She was in pretty bad shape, honestly. All kinds of cuts and bruises, if I hadn't been so focused on the chair and whatever demon that was, I probably could have at least helped her a bit more, but JT took her to the hospital so hopefully she's okay.
My thoughts? This demon is using the chair to lure people into sitting in the chair so that they can make a deal. The woman, though... I can only guess at that. By the way the chair was rooted into the ground over that grave, some form of witch craft had to have been used. Perhaps the woman was part of a coven, some sort of pact may have been made but I truly can't say for sure. I'm honestly considering trying to draw out those symbols and going to the library, looking to see if I can find anything out about them. I do hope that Teresa is okay, I'm concerned about the fact that she sat in that chair but maybe, since she didn't make a deal she will be okay.
