In Vancouver, British Columbia, the fabric of the world is beginning to fray.
A strange, blue-green fungus has been growing, circles of mushrooms popping up in the woods and back alleys as of late. Most people outside mycologists and conservationists wouldn’t care, but those who step inside circles of this fungus find themselves elsewhere: teleported into a destroyed, post-apocalyptic world, left to fend for their lives against supernatural beasts.
Those who survive gain the ability to cross back and forth between our world and the Eldworld, and with this ability, access to powers beyond human knowledge. For there are monarchs in the Eldworld, strange, unknowable, eldritch beings that will trade with people, granting what can only be called superpowers in exchange for a variety of things--servitude, lives, information, bodies. These Altered gain abilities beyond any human, but the extent of their debt to the Eldmonarchs is still unknown.
Now, creatures from the Eldworld have begun to escape into our world, and with them, the fungus. Entire acres of woodland are being overtaken by alien biome. Animals--including people--caught in the fungus are devoured, turned into thoughtless Blighted husks that have nothing but hunger for flesh.
Will you trade yourself for power, or will you be devoured in the end? All will someday succumb to the Eldblight.
