Looks are important to Jo. She likes someone who can keep a sue going and who is very structured in attitude. A go getter. As for Jo she was very unexperienced as a young girl who learned how to hunt from her mother. Jo holds her father very close to her heart and for three years despised John Winchester for being so reckless and not looking out for her father.
After having lost contact with the winchesters Jo grows into a strong women. She is better at fighting and much more serious. Her opinions become so straight forward and often come off as insults to those who don't know her. She is a proud hunter who knows her place. A very logical person. Her shyness replaced with strength and an outgoing nature. Judgment is something she doesn't tolerate and harm towards those she loves is enough to set off her new temper. Jo does have a passionate side but does not allow her passion for Dean to take over her lifestyle of hunting.

History:
Jo is the first born child of Ellen and William Harvelle. As a young girl she grew up sheltered from the reality that was outside. She had no idea what awaited her. Her parents both kept a secret from Jo but they hid it well. Like any other child Jo was innocent and seemed to be full of happiness. She loved people and soon she became known as the roadhouse girl. She lived with her two parents in Nebraska. Many of the customers that the roadhouse bar had were in fact hunters. Hidden well Jo went to school for most of her childhood. When she turned seven and was still in pig tails, her father was killed by a demon. William having been good friends with the Winchesters father John decided to go up against a demon he knew very little about. In order to help his friend John protect he Winchester boys. Ellen took her husband's death hard. She stopped the friendship she had with John Winchester and did not allow him into her bar. Later that year closer to Jo's eighth birthday she was told her father was dead and not coming back. The reason unknown to her Jo kept strong and was raised by her mother who was also a hunter to fight. She needed to know how to protect herself.
In her teenage years Jo continued school. Putting off hunting for a few more years and trying to live the normal life. This felt like a betrayal to her father and with time Jo knew she wasn't like the other girls who wanted to settle down and be with their boyfriends and study. It was to much drama and she missed the way she was raised. As a hunter. Quitting school she came back to the roadhouse and helped her mom run the place. By age seventeen Jo meets two young young boys also named Winchester. She doesn't think much of it at first but the three become good friends. Jo learns about what it really means to be a hunter. She is very impressed by the good hat he brothers are doing that she dedicates her life to hunting as well. After helping the boys her mother tells her that the Winchesters father John is responsible for the death of her father. In shock Jo leaves the Winchester and travels keeping her life to herself for the most part. Every now and then Jo sends a letter to her mother with the address of which state she is in but remains alone. During this time Jo discovers she can't blame the Winchesters for her father's death so she travels back to the roadhouse. Once meeting up with the boys again to battle the horseman war she becomes close with he Winchesters and falls for Dean.
The two are a happy couple for awhile and try to create awhile relationship and hunt but this becomes difficult when Sam Winchester turns evil and it causes Jo difficulty. Jo becomes bait in order to save Sam from turning evil. When Jo realizes that a demon named Meg is using her to kill Dean Winchester things become to hard for Jo and she decides to stop showing her emotions to Dean in order to protect him. The two part ways but promise to keep in touch. After a year another struggle happens and Jo is excited to help the Winchesters kill Lucifer and take hold of the colt. This plan is over turned when Hell Hounds appear and savagely attack Jo. About to die Ellen stays with her daughter and uses bombs to kill the Hellhounds and destroy the roadhouse, herself, and her daughter. This deeply harms both Jo and Dean who never expressed their feelings towards each other. It was dark outside. From the roadhouse Jo could see the moon just barely covered by clouds. It wasn't very bright at all which meant that soon it would be coming down, replaced with a blinding new sunrise. Jo didn't mind the darkness, not now anyway. She was a hunter and after learning about her father and the Winchester boys she knew that's where she belonged. She was going to dedicate her life to hunting. It wasn't always easy, no at first it was a huge challenge. She had no idea what she was up against. What an amateur she was as a young girl meeting the Winchesters. She was crazy to have ran straight for trouble as she usually did. Knowing her mother had lost her father when she was just a kid and running straight for danger.. She didn't realize just how much her mother was right. Not that she took the time to actually listen. She was daring and heck whatever the Winchesters could do she could do. Being a girl was no challenge for her. In time she did make it. She sacrificed her life for Dean Winchester only to lose him and the small life she had managed to create with her mother. It was nothing compared to what she had now, who she was now. Strong, serious, and fast. She was a force to be reckoned with and demons knew this. Nobody would hold her back from helping Hunters everywhere. They were her 'raisin - detre', everything she lived for. As she stood there alone in the roadhouse she moved the dagger between the cracks separating her fingers. Tilting her head slightly as she shot the small knife at a dartboard and getting a bulls eye she grinned to herself."Not bad..Not bad at all". As she walked to get the dagger she remembered what it was like to be used as bait for the murder of Dean Winchester. Demons.. They were so typical. She had made sure that could never happen to her again. Dean was in her past and she doubted ever seeing him again. After all he didn't seem to take her death to heart. Where was he?, fighting to help his brother, not that he thought of the Harvelle anymore. Pulling her dagger out of the dart board Jo shook her head. She would be ready for the next creep who came for her. That's when she walked over to the bar and leaned against it. From the corner of her ear she could here a chime. Another customer... Really?, it was late. She turned towards the older drunk man who was stumbling as he walked and yelled "buddy!, didn't you see the sign??...we're closed". The hunter lifted an eyebrow towards the man but gained no reply. As she walked over to the table she looked at he man once again ready to repeat what she just said when he exploded into ash in front of her. Jo turned to see a familiar face, her mother as she nodded before heading in the back to put on an apron as a waiter and get ready for her next shift.
